WITH the mercury plunging down as we move into December, Inspector Gary Jones from Dyfed Powys-Police’s Roads Policing Unit, has some tips on how best to tackle the winter weather.
Inspector Jones says: "In winter it’s even more important to plan your journey.
"Before setting off it’s worth spending some time planning your route and checking to see if there are any problems with it, both in terms of traffic and weather."
• Check for live updates as you travel too - but don’t use your phone whilst driving.
• Visit AA / RAC Traffic Information and Traffic Wales Information.
• Check the weather on Met Office or other appropriate weather sites
• Make sure you are prepared for your journey.
• For up-to-the minute travel information why not download a traffic app
• It’s also advisable to let relatives and friends know your intended route and expected arrival time. And, where possible, travel with others. While you’re travelling it’s a good idea to listen to the radio for travel and weather updates.
“In poor weather conditions, please give serious consideration as to whether your journey is absolutely necessary?”
