Lampeter town councillors are poised to take over the lease of a popular play area – two-and-a-half years after the idea was first mooted.

Back in September 2016 Tai Ceredigion housing association invited Lampeter Town Council to take over Maesyfelin play area.

But progress stalled after a report by independent experts suggested it could cost £3,000 to £4,000 to bring its play equipment up to scratch.

Now the lease transfer is set to go ahead, after Tai Ceredigion agreed to reinstate the park’s play equipment prior to the handover.

“The equipment is not excellent, but there will be no rent involved with the lease at all,” Cllr Richard Marks told colleagues.

“I think we should go ahead with this.”

Cllr Chris Thomas said they would carry out an inspection of the play area to see what works needed doing.

“There are grants available to us as a town council,” he added.
