A FORMER mayor of Tywyn has died shortly after her re-election to the town council.
Cllr Eileen Ellis, 84, had served her local council for nearly three decades, but died following a short illness last Tuesday, 23 May.
The news came just a few days after she garnered 184 votes and a seat on the newly formed town council, a testament to her ongoing popularity.
Cllr Ellis (pictured), who wore the chains of office in 2002-2003 and 2003-2004, was also a great grandmother and will be “remembered for her humour and dedicated service”.
Gwynedd councillor Anne Lloyd Jones, a close friend of the 84-year-old, paid tribute to her friend and colleague.
“I will miss her greatly, her friendship and her kindness, but will remember her as being on good form following her success at being re-elected as a town councillor when we went out for lunch after the results,” she said.
“Obviously our thoughts are with her family at this sad time.”
Cllr Ellis’ funeral will be held today (Thursday) at Llwyngwril Parish Church at 11am.
