TRIBUTES have been paid to a “kind-hearted” man from Penrhyndeudraeth who tragically died in a house fire.

Gwilym Jones died after a fire broke out at his home on Gwilym Terrace just before 10am on Friday, 13 January.

Two fire engines rushed to the property, but sadly the 75-year-old died in the blaze.

A joint investigation by North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and North Wales Police was carried out following the incident, which revealed that the fire was started accidentally and caused by some debris from an open fire in the living room.

Cllr Gareth Thomas, who represents Penrhyndeudraeth on Gwynedd Council, said he was saddened to hear of Mr Jones’ death.

He said: “It is with great sadness that we hear of a loss of life within our community in Penrhyndeudraeth following a house fire in Gwilym Terrace on Friday morning.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Gwilym Jones’ family and friends and our heartfelt sympathy goes out to them.

“No doubt, this close-knit community will rally round in support of this family’s tragic loss."
