In response to the recently published letter entitled ‘Sculpture would be a thought provoking icon’, this is an assumption by the unnamed writer. ‘Tree’ is a conceptual sculpture and the imagined claims made for its future – educational, bringing more visitors to Borth and benefit to local business – are, I presume, well intended. I have no argument against the artist or his intentions. I was one of the many local people who objected to planning permission for this project. Any nine-metre-high sculpture at the proposed site would be an intrusion and completely out of place. Perhaps a different site would allow the artist to fulfil his aims?
