GLASLYN Walking group member Vic Tritton is pictured here celebrating becoming 90 years young!

A founder member and leader of Glaslyn Walking Group was delighted to celebrate the occasion with fellow members at a special meeting on Thursday, 1 July.

Peter Rock, a member of the group, told the Cambrian News: “Walking and staying active keeps you young - here’s the living proof!

“Vic Tritton celebrated his 90th birthday on 2 July.

“A founder member and leader of the Glaslyn Walking Group, he has led us almost every Thursday, for over 15 years - except for lockdown.

Though Vic lives in Blaenau Ffestiniog, he is well known in Porthmadog.

He worked at Eric Jones’s cafe, played bowls, recycles waste for The Hair Lounge and is often seen by the bus stop!

His special birthday was celebrated at Abergafren garden, thanks to hosts Martin and Norma Emery who are also members of the walking group.

A collage of photographs of Vic’s many walks formed a large ‘90’ on an easel on the lawn and Gwynne Wheldon greeted him with a specially commissioned poem.

Another surprise was a special cake featuring his hobbies: bowls, walking boots and a blue motorcycle. Vic is a talented mechanic and enjoyed working on motorbikes.

He was presented with a cap and T-shirt with ‘Who knew 90 could look this good?’ written on it. He then supervised members in a game of bowls to work off the buffet!
