Fundraisers who completed a charity walk to pay tribute to Aberystwyth Town FC great David Williams have presented over £14,000 to Macmillan Cancer Support.
Margery Williams, the widow of Mr Williams who was known as Dias, was joined by supporters who took part in the 70-mile walk that saw the group walk between the clubs that Dias played for during his career.
Mrs Williams and her sons Owain and Sion had wanted to both pay tribute to Dias and raise money as part of a celebration of what would have been Dias’s 70th birthday on 11 March this year.
He passed away in November 1988 and the fundraisers decided that money raised through their walk and other events, including a charity auction, would be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.
The £14,000 that was raised smashed the target of £3,000 that had initially been set when plans for the event to celebrate Dias, who has a stand named after him at Park Avenue and is still Aberystwyth Town’s record scorer, were finalised.
