Madam,

On Boxing Day, with my wife and daughter, we decided to drive to Black Rock Sands, never having been before.

After a good walk to one end of the beach and back, being a gentleman of a certain age I needed the toilets only to find they were locked.

So we had to cut short our stay and drive back to Porthmadog.

There was a brisk walk from the car park to the toilets near Edinburgh Woollen Mill but again these were locked.

It was not as though the town or the sands were empty – there were plenty of people in both places.

In the end it was a good job that the privately owned cafés were open.

Gwynedd Council says that it wants to encourage tourism. Closing public services like toilets is not the way.

Yours etc,

Keith Barber, Llanbedr.
