RUSSELL Bentley was the overall winner of this year’s Henri Lloyd Abersoch 10K race, the first round of the prestigious of the Abersoch Triple Crown competition.
He crossed the finish line in a time of 00:33:28, with Paul Green following almost a minute behind in 00:35:24, with David Marsh taking third in 00:35:46.
The first woman was Diane Mcvey in a time of 00:39:24, with Jane Evans taking second place in 00:40:03 and Catherine Connell came home in third in 00:40:20.
The top three boys in the Abersoch Holiday Homes 3K Beach run were Ethan Davies in 00:11:14, Ethan Warren in 00:11:18 and William Wright in 00:11:26, whilst the top three girls were Maisie Trueman in 00:12:15, Matilda Byrnes in 00:12:26 and Charlotte Broadhurst in 00:12:52.
Around 1,000 people had turned up to take part in the Henri Lloyd Abersoch 10k beach race, and the shorter distance Abersoch Holiday Homes 3k Beach run. Cheered on by a huge crowd, competitors of the 10k run began in Abersoch village centre and finished on the beach.
The fantastic course saw athletes run the first kilometre through the main high street, before forking right along Lon Pentre Bach to the Deucoch, and then heading left down to the Sarn Bach crossroads.
Heading straight over, there’s a section of narrow lanes stretching towards the far end of the beach with a short section of road running round the bay before reaching ‘Tocyn Brutal’ - a challenging hill that is a rough track lasting for 0.3 of a mile.
Some undulating roads for two miles saw the course loop back around until athletes headed down onto the golf course before joining the far end of the beach. This was followed by an exhilarating kilometre sprint along the beach to the finish just before the middle slip ramp.
The race forms part of the Abersoch Triple Crown competition, which combines times from the Abersoch 10K, the Sprint Triathlon on 30 June and the Half Marathon on 22 September, in which athletes must show versatility across three races.
