PWLLHELI’s mixed martial arts fighter Danny Williams has become the UKFC lightweight champion after a very convincing victory at the Preston Guild Hall.
The impressive 26 year-old emphatically beat Doncaster opponent Brandon Elwell with a rear naked choke RNC submission in the first round to secure the belt.
“The fight was scheduled for five three-minute rounds to decide who would be the new champion,” he said.
“After dominating the striking on the feet, using various styles from karate and Muay Thai I managed to take the fight to the ground, via a double leg takedown.
“Here I landed my strikes, whilst trapping my opponent’s arm with my knee, and after taking full mount my opponent couldn’t take the pressure of my striking.
“It resulted in him turning away and giving his back to me, and this is where I worked him and finished the fight via a rear naked choke, and forced him to tap out.”
Williams, who fights out of HAMMA St Helens, is scheduled to take on Ollie Morris on 16 June at Preston, and he hopes it is just the beginning of his MMA career.
“My future goals are to represent Wales in the World IMMAF tournament,” said Williams. “My plan is to go professional after this, around June next year, where I hope to be signed by one of the top promotions.”
