DOLGELLAU’S Elfyn Evans still has a chance of winning the World Rally Championship after finishing second in Rally de España this morning.

The Welshman and co-driver Scott Martin failed to pick up maximum power stage points but finished second on the stage.

The title will be decided in Monza next month after Toyota Gazoo Racing team-mate and championship leader Sébastien Ogier finished fourth overall, his lead cut to 17 points.

Evans said: "I’m pleased in one sense but quite frustrated in another.

“It wasn’t a perfect weekend. Still a pretty solid job, but of course we are fighting a bit of a cause here.

“Not what we wanted, but there we go."

Ogier said: "It’s points for the championship. Coming here I was targeting higher, but for some reason it didn’t happen. In a hard time, we still took what we needed for the championship.”
