PARK Avenue’s biggest crowd of the season – 553 – turned up on Friday night to witness another impressive performance from the Black and Greens, and although the Seasiders created a hatful of chances, they had to make do with a draw as league leaders Pure Swansea ensured a defensive shut-out.

The top-of-the-table clash – with Aber a point behind Swansea in second – ensured a big-game atmosphere, and the hosts started very strongly.

Rhys Hughes and Dan Owen sent in dangerous crosses and Aber’s high tempo left Swansea struggling to cope.

Tom Evans crossed from the right and Aaron Williams volleyed just over, while Hughes then went on a superb run before unleashing a shot which Kane Draper tipped over the bar.

Kyle Copp in midfield then gave notice that the visitors also had quality by chopping wide, before sending in a free-kick which was glanced wide at the far post. Back in front of the Dias Stand, Dan Owen picked out Williams, whose header was tipped over the bar.

Bradley Gibbins tried an overhead kick which fell nicely for Luke Evans in Aber’s goal, and then came a hugely controversial moment which had a major influence on the outcome.

Dan Owen surged past his marker and was about to strike on goal, only to hit the deck, with the home side making strong claims for a penalty. Not only was the penalty denied, but Owen was booked for diving, to the consternation of the Park Avenue support.

The fleet-footed Owen was somehow denied again minutes later, and he then sent in another excellent cross which Leo Thompson almost got to.

Having been pressed incessantly throughout the first half, Pure Swansea changed their game plan after the break, pushing up their defence and going long at every opportunity.

Owen sent in yet another shot which was saved by Draper, then Sam Paddock’s superb header agonisingly grazed the post, before the defender denied Gibbins at the other end with a great tackle.

Copp and Gibbins missed the target, then Ollie Roberts drew a good save from Evans in Aber’s goal with a strong header. Gibbins again sent an effort past the post, then Owen’s cross just evaded substitute Tarran Hollinshead as both sides continued to go for the win.

Leo Thompson almost sneaked a goal at the near post, but was denied, as was Owen seconds later. With full-time approaching, Liam Walsh sent an effort over the bar after a nice move, while Copp’s long-range effort was easy for Luke Evans in goal. In injury time, Williams picked out Owen down the left, and he brought yet another save from Draper with a low effort.

Williams himself then had a header saved, and Pure Swansea clung on for their point.
