BORTH United consolidated their top three spot in the Spar Mid Wales League division two as they took their chances to beat spirited Four Crosses 5-2 on a bright but breezy day at Uppingham Fields.
With the surface slightly heavy after overnight rain, Borth made a flying start as Josh Ferreira drove the ball passed the visiting keeper for their opening goal. They doubled that lead when, following a corner kick, Huw Jones glanced the ball into the net with just 10 minutes gone. Four Crosses, however, soon replied with a penalty converted by Gareth Jones, but Borth restored their two goal lead when Gareth Kelsall-Hughes headed home Ben Jones’ pin-point cross into the net, and the 3-1 score stood at half-time. The visitors made a bright start to the second half and Dale Lloyd rounded keeper Ben Willis to score their second goal - and minutes later they were unlucky to see a shot hit the base of the post. As Crosses pressed for an equaliser, however, they were then hit with a sucker punch as Christian Jones made it 4-2. As full-time approached, Nial Coleridge fired beyond the visiting keeper for his debut goal for Borth to complete the scoring, which will put them in good heart for the visit of Churchstoke this weekend.
