NEWCASTLE Emlyn climbed to the top of the Costcutter Ceredigion Premier Division with an emphatic 5-0 victory at Maesglas on Tuesday evening.

Maesglas made the brighter start, combining physicality with some neat football and forcing Emlyn goalkeeper Nathan Jones into a series of early saves.

The visitors gradually settled and began to dominate possession, playing with increasing fluency. Their breakthrough arrived five minutes before half-time when Will Williams finished off a well-worked move involving Sam Brook.

Brook was also the architect of Emlyn's second on the stroke of half-time, delivering a pinpoint cross for Ash Campbell to head home his second goal in as many games.

The second half remained competitive, with Maesglas goalkeeper Callum Phillips producing a string of fine saves and his defence working hard to keep the score down.

However, Emlyn's slick passing game eventually took control. The introduction of winger Riley Clemas proved decisive, his pace and trickery creating the third goal for Brook, who capped a man-of-the-match performance with a deserved finish.

Phillips then denied playmaker John Seeley with a stunning save from a powerful volley destined for the top corner, but he could do little to stop substitute Reagan Williams, who powered through to score on his debut after being played in by Callum Cresser.

Mike Glover completed the scoring in the 89th minute, rising to meet an Ash Campbell cross with a thumping header.

The result underlined Emlyn's title credentials, with new signings Cresser and Glover continuing to impress as the early-season momentum builds.

St Dogmaels made it two wins from two at the start of their league campaign with a crushing 9-0 victory over Llanboidy at Cae Dandre.

The Saints were determined to build on their impressive opening-day performance, but faced a Llanboidy side that had also begun the season strongly with victories in their first two matches.

Any hopes of a closely contested encounter quickly disappeared as St Dogmaels raced into a two-goal lead inside three minutes. Gwilym Rees opened the scoring before Rhys Jones produced the goal of the night, volleying home at the far post from a pinpoint Louis Harding cross.

The visitors showed no signs of easing up. Further strikes from Adam Williams and Jones, combined with a superb first-half hat-trick from Harding, saw the Saints take a commanding 7-0 lead into the interval.

With the points all but secured, manager Dom Williams was able to utilise the strength of his squad after the break, introducing fresh legs from the bench. Llanboidy defended resolutely in the second half and worked hard to stem the tide, but Jones completed his hat-trick before adding a fourth goal to round off another dominant display.

The emphatic victory highlighted the Saints' attacking firepower and depth, sending them into the Bank Holiday break full of confidence.

Lechryd were also among the winners as they claimed a deserved 3-1 victory over Crymych at Tegryn.

The visitors moved the ball sharply and worked tirelessly throughout. Llion Williams gave them the perfect start with a composed finish before Liam Doherty doubled the advantage with a stunning strike.

Crymych reduced the deficit through Mckenzie McDonald, but Lechryd restored their two-goal cushion when Rhydian Davies met an excellent cross from Cory Davies with a superb left-footed volley.
