CRANNOG made up for their Costcutter League Cup Final defeat to Newcastle Emlyn when they lifted the Cwpan Coffa Dai ‘Dynamo’ Davies Cup with a 3-0 win over Felinfach on May Day.

The Llangrannog outfit had struggled to find the target against the Reds on Easter Monday, but they were far sharper in attack on this occasion and they already had the game in the bag by the hour mark.

The hot favourites started well and tried to get the ball down and play, with a shower of rain making the surface lively.

In a rather scrappy affair it was nip and tuck early on with Crannog goalkeeper Rhydian Morgan and his opposite number Owain Williams handling well.

Felinfach tried to hit their opponents on the counter using the pace of front runner Kieran Boyes, but he was well shackled by outstanding centre back Mike Glover.

Crannog went close to scoring on 25 minutes when Glover hit the wood work, and there were a number of nervy moments when the Milkmen were forced to scramble clearances away from danger.

Midfielder Mike Bridges also went close when he smashed the crossbar from 30 yards out - but a goal eventually arrived when Marc Davies netted with a superb volley from the edge of the penalty box.

Gary Davies and George Colven both had glorious chances to put the game to bed before the break, but their opponents were still in with a shout at the interval.

Felinfach put the Llangrannog side under a great deal of pressure in the opening quarter of the second half, and forced keeper Rhydian Morgan into making three excellent saves, with Kieran Boyce going closest, but their failure to make this pressure count was to prove costly.

Crannog manager Dylan Vaughan Evans brought on Chris Welch and Mathew Smith after 50 minutes and they went further ahead, courtesy of a great finish from Colven, with a long range effort that went into the net off the woodwork.

A killer third goal then arrived with 25 minutes to go, when Mathew Smith steered the ball home from a corner, and there was no way back for Felinfach.

Crannog captain Mike Glover was presented with the trophy by Mrs Betty Davies, to the delight of Crannog’s players and supporters, and they even remembered to call in with a club legend Glyn Morgan, who is house-bound these days.

It was a touching moment indeed for Glyn, a former Cardiganshire League referee, and the co-founder of CPD Crannog, who was a very close friend of the late Dai ‘Dynamo’ Davies, in whose memory the Cwpan Ceredigion has been renamed.
