DOLGELLAU Athletic booked their place in the next round of the Lock Stock Ardal North League Cup after overcoming a stubborn Carno side at Cae Marian on Saturday.

Aaron Young gave the hosts the lead after 18 minutes, producing some clever footwork to create space before curling a left-footed effort into the top corner.

The hosts had a golden opportunity to double their advantage in first-half stoppage time when Tomos Jones won a penalty, only to see his spot-kick brilliantly saved by Rhys Jones.

Dolgellau enjoyed the lion's share of possession after the break, but Carno remained organised and difficult to break down. The visitors threatened occasionally on the counter-attack but were unable to create any clear-cut chances.

Paul Lewis and Osian Morris both went close with headers before Dolgellau were awarded a second penalty. This time Morris made no mistake, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to make it 2-0.

The incident proved costly for Carno, with full-back Keegan Bradley shown a second yellow card. Despite being reduced to 10 men, the visitors ensured a nervy finish when Tyler McCarthy pulled a goal back. However, Dolgellau rarely looked troubled thereafter and always appeared the more likely side to add to the scoring.

Manager Rob Evans said: "It was nice to be home again and great to be playing on an immaculate surface in front of a good turnout, which we are very grateful for.

"I thought we did a lot of good things and, on the whole, the back five performed very well throughout the game. We're pleased to find ourselves in another cup draw."

Pwllheli are also through after edging out Connah's Quay Town by the same 2-1 scoreline.

Cian Pritchard opened the scoring from the penalty spot after 15 minutes at the Rec, but Toby Lemon levelled midway through the first half.

The tie remained finely balanced throughout the second period until Osian Jones struck a dramatic stoppage-time winner to send Pwllheli into the next round.

Nefyn United's cup run came to an end following a 3-1 defeat to Ardal North West leaders Trearddur Bay.

The islanders dominated the first half at Cae'r Delyn and were rewarded with two goals from Noa Hughes. Callum Parry added a third with seven minutes remaining before substitute Iwan Moore grabbed a late consolation for the Penwaig.

Bow Street also progressed in emphatic fashion, producing arguably their best performance of the season in a 5-1 victory over Llangollen Town.

Having suffered a late defeat to the same opponents in the league at Cae Piod the previous weekend, the Magpies responded superbly.

Courtney Perkins fired Bow Street ahead after just three minutes, although Edward Baker equalised midway through the half. Josh Crowl quickly restored the hosts' lead before leading scorer Steff Williams struck twice before the interval to put Street firmly in command.

Amlyn Ifans' side continued to dominate after the break and added a fifth through Osian Burrell, who finished well after combining with Crowl.
