LLANIDLOES Town have moved to sign Carno left back Jordan Jones as the Daffs look to strengthen their squad for the Spar Mid Wales League run-in.
With Josh Evans facing a lengthy lay-off with a cruciate knee injury, Daffs manager Hugh Clarke said that he was desperate to bring in a replacement.
“Jordan’s a strong lad who knows the Spar Mid Wales League well, so it’s great to bring him in, with Josh going to be out long term,” said the Llanidloes boss.
Jones was not signed in time to play in Saturday’s Spar League Cup second round tie with Radnor Valley at Victoria Avenue, but he is set to make his debut at Churchstoke the following week.
Harri Clarke and Josh Hartrick remain on the sidelines as the Daffs hope to put the record straight against their visitors, who have won their previous three meetings this season - twice in the league and once in the Radnorshire Cup.
“We owe them one,” said Clarke who, like the rest of the division, was frustrated by the weather last weekend as their home clash with Berriew was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
“We wanted to bounce after the Llanrhaeadr defeat the week before, but there was no hope of playing the game, with water standing on the pitch,” he added.
The washout means that the third-placed Daffs still trail leaders Welshpool Town by 10 points with two games in hand, while they are four points adrift of Llanrhaeadr who have also played three games fewer.
Bow Street are facing a backlog of fixtures after their home match against Churchstoke was called off, and the Magpies still have 15 league matches to play.
They are hoping to be able to take on Abermule away in the Spar League Cup second round this Saturday.
There were also washouts at Aberaeron, Borth, Llanrhaeadr, Machynlleth and Tywyn last weekend.
Like the majority of the league, Aberystwyth University’s trip to Dyffryn Banw in division two had also fell victim to the rain.
The students are back to duty this weekend when they face the same opposition - but this time at home.
In the only division two match to go ahead, Joel Evans twice took the lead for Brecon Northcote, but Montgomery Town hit back with goals from Jack Williams and a last minute levelled from James Langford. This weekend's Spar Mid Wales League fixtures (Ko 2.15pm): Division One: Kerry v Machynlleth; Llandrindod Wells v Borth Utd (Ko 2.30pm).
