BOW STREET Reserves booked their place in the second round of the Len and Julia Newman Trophy with an exciting 5-4 win over Aberystwyth University Reserves.

Shaun Jones netted twice for the Magpies, with Ryan Morris , Rhydian ap Owen and William Mills also scoring.

Captain Michael Cotter Jones scored a hat-trick for the students, with Will Gough also finding the net, but they were outscored by Bow Street in an action-packed tie.

Ryan Edwards added five more goals to his season’s tally as Llanilar were emphatic 11-1 winners over Llanon, with Guto Roberts also scoring a hat-trick, along with goals from Ryan Hopkins, Sion Evans and an own goal.

The first round tie between Borth Reserves and Talybont was postponed, whilst Dolgellau Reserves will host Penrhyncoch Thirds in their first round tie this weekend.

The scheduled Cambrian Tyres division one matches between Bont and Penparcau, and Penrhyncoch Reserves and Padarn United were both postponed last weekend.

In division two, Penrhyncoch Thirds moved six points clear at the top of the table with a 5-0 win over Aberdyfi.

The Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League Cup action takes centre stage this weekend, with Bow Street Reserves hosting Penparcau whilst Machynlleth Reserves welcome Tregaron Turfs in the first round.

• The draw for the third round of the Emrys Morgan Cup has been made, and the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League is well-represented with six clubs.

Tregaron Turfs, who lifted the trophy in 2007, will entertain local rivals and 2014 winners Lampeter Town, of the Costcutter Ceredigion League, whilst Penparcau, the winners in 2008, will host league rivals Padarn United.

Talybont, who won the trophy in 2001, will entertain Trefonen, and Llanilar face a trip to play Guilsfield Reserves.

Bow Street Reserves, whose first team won the competition in 2006 have a home tie against Llanrhaeadr Reserves.

In an all Costcutter Ceredigion League tie, Llanboidy will play hosts to Crannog, whilst St Dogmaels will travel to play Llanymynech. In all Montgomeryshire Amateur League tie Llanfyllin Town will entertain Bishops Castle.

The ties are provisionally scheduled for 19 January, although Llanilar will play their tie the following week.
