NEWCASTLE Emlyn added the Costcutter Ceredigion League Cup to the Emrys Morgan Cup they have already won as they produced a five-star performance to beat Llandysul 5-1 at Aberaeron.

The Reds were two goals up after only six minutes, with Daniel Davies running through to slot home, before Craig Gordon converted from the spot after George Lowry was fouled in the penalty box.Llandysul fought back and when a Dean Jones free kick was headed across goal, Chris Harries tapped in from close range.Scott Mayes was unlucky not to equalise when his effort was cleared off the line, but Emlyn gradually got on top again, and they increased their lead when Gordon headed in from Adrian Hazelby’s cross.The game opened up as Llandysul pushed forward, but they were stung when man of the match Gordon put Dion Phillips through to score with aplomb.Ashley Summers completed the scoring late on, following good work by Phillips to make it 5-1, before the Reds lifted the League Cup for the first time since 1999.“Once again the players have stepped up, just as they did in the Emrys Morgan Cup final,” said manager Owain Thomas“It’s been a frustrating couple weeks for us, with two costly defeats in the league, and the Championship may have slipped away, but this was a great response in winning our second Cup final, and hopefully it will not be our last this season.”Newcastle Emlyn reached their third final of the season last Wednesday as they beat Cardigan Town 4-2 in their Cwpan Coffa Dai ‘Dynamo’ Davies semi-final tie.The Reds will be hoping to complete a hat-trick of Cup wins when they take on Ffostrasol in the final of that competition at Aberystwyth’s Park Avenue on Bank Holiday Monday, 7 May (Ko 7pm).Newcastle Emlyn, who have a hectic end of season run-in, will also be hoping to keep their league title hopes alive at home to Cardigan on Wednesday - and are still involved in the Bay Cup, in which they host Lampeter Town on Friday evening.

Costcutter Ceredigion League Round-UpLAMPETER are just two wins from winning the Costcutter Ceredigion League title, but St Dogmaels and Newcastle Emlyn are both poised to pounce if they slip.The North Road men got back in track with a 4-0 win over Cilgerran Rovers at Parc y Dre last weekend, to condemn them to relegation.Second half goals from Tristan Potter, a Terry Witts penalty and two from Robert Slawkowski ensured that Lampeter can win the title with wins against both Ffostrasol and Newcastle Emlyn.The league title race had taken a dramatic twist in midweek, however, when long-time leaders Lampeter were beaten 5-2 by Crannog.Crannog took the lead after the break when Mike Glover netted, before a Rhys Davies penalty, two goals from Gary Davies and a George Colven effort made it 5-0.Gethin Hunter grabbed a couple of consolation goals, but there was no way back. St Dogmaels coasted to the top on Wednesday as they notched up a 4-0 win over Cilgerran with goals by Louis Harding, Luke Jones and a brace from Aaron Williams.The Saints then beat Felinfach 3-1 last weekend, with two strikes by top scorer Louis Harding and a Peter Almond goal to stay a point clear, with one game left.In midweek, a hat-trick from Llandysul striker Chris Harries had helped steer the Swallows to a 7-2 success over Aberaeron Reserves to push them back up into third place in the table. Josh Baker, Scott Mayes, Dean Jones and Mathew Newbould also netted goals.Ffostrasol moved to safety with a 4-1 win at Felinfach, with goals from Iolo Thomas, Cian Edwards, Adam Jones and Gethin Davies.Last weekend, Ffostrasol lost 3-0 at home to Crannog.
