TWO goals each by Rhodri Scott and Carl Jones, plus a debut strike by Marek Kopak, earned Pwllheli a 5-1 victory to make progress in the Cookson Cup.
Visitors Abergele Town, who had run Jason Jones’s side close twice in single goal skirmishes this season, are a decent outfit, but could not contain the rampant hosts. Pwllheli’s Jiri Kober, back between the home posts, was never really troubled.
Having made as many as nine final appearances in the Cookson Cup, Pwllheli were quick off the mark in this first round tie, with a goal by Scott inside 60 seconds. Carl Jones crossed from the left wing, and Mark Jones laid the ball on for Scott to fire a half volley over Abergele’s Ryan Roberts.
Strengthened by the signing of Tomos Jones from Nantlle Vale, and with Barry Evans available again, Pwllheli were stunned as Town equalised on 38 minutes through Thomas Galvin’s 12 yards strike. Pwllheli took charge, however, as Carl Jones powered home a low 25-yards’ free-kick, before Scott produced his second goal on 65 minutes, with a 25-yard strike.
Then, in the game’s closing moments, Kopak enjoyed his first goal for the club, before Carl Jones added goal number five.
