BLAENAU Ffestiniog Amateurs increased their lead at the top of the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance division two to seven points as they battled to a hard-earned 1-1 draw at home against Pwllheli.
There were doubts prior to kick-off as to whether the match would get started after heavy rain, but thankfully the weather improved as the match got under way.
The deadlock was broken on 24 minutes when a fine run by Joe Dukes on the right wing ended with him crossing the ball to the head of Iwan Griffiths to score.
It took just seven minutes for the visitors to equalise, however, as a fine drive from Dafydd Jones ended in the home net, with keeper Gethin Jones well-beaten.
In the opening minutes of the second half, Pwllheli had more of the play without really testing the home keeper, but the hosts went close to reclaiming the lead when keeper Keylor Miranda made a fine save to keep out Tom Hughes’ shot.
Within minutes he made an even better save from Hughes, this time tipping the ball onto the post before it was cleared.
It was a nail-biting last few minutes for both set of fans before the final whistle was blown, but a draw was a fair result.
In the closing minutes the home side introduced their new signing Mathew Hughes, and the visitors brought on Daniel Pritchard, a former Amateurs player.
It is off to Anglesey again on Saturday for the Quarrymen with a league match at Llanerchymedd, who are placed sixth, whilst Pwllheli welcome a Penmaenmawr Phoenix side that is second-from-bottom.
Elsewhere in division two, Jordan Phillips scored six goals as Glan Conwy were emphatic 10-2 winners over Aberffraw.
Connor Davies also scored twice, along with goals from Merick Knight and Jamie Jones. Gary Boulton and Richard Roberts scored first half goals for the home side.
Holyhead Town edged a 1-0 win over Mochdre Sports, with Asa Thomas netting an 80th minute winner for the hosts.
