ABERYSTWYTH University consolidated third spot in the Spar Mid Wales League division two after making a winning start to 2018 with a 3-1 win over Newbridge.
In their first action since their festive break, the students had trailed to Kyle Morgan’s goal, before then turning the tables with three goals in the second period.
Dion Roberts levelled on 70 minutes from close range, after Tom Spicer had headed towards goal from a corner kick.
Matthew Roberts then put the students ahead when latching onto a through ball, before steering in from a tight angle.
Spicer then sealed the win when turning to fire into the bottom corner, to put them in good spirits for Saturday’s big home clash with second-placed Llansantffraid, who are still unbeaten in the league.
Llansantffraid beat Presteigne 5-0 away from home last weekend, courtesy of doubles from both Nathan Prodger and Callum Williams, and an own goal.
A Joel Metcalf brace meanwhile ensured that division two frontrunners Builth Wells extended their unbeaten league run to 13 matches as they registered a 2-0 away win against Montgomery Town.
Dolgellau moved up into fourth position in the table as they returned to winning ways with a 2-0 win over bottom club Penybont United, courtesy of goals from Dennis Bates and Dominic Thomas.
Goals from David Anthony, Charlie Humphreys and Will Denham earned Abermule a 3-0 win at Talgarth Town.
