BALA Town’s coaching staff have confirmed that Chris Venables will wear the captain’s armband for the 2020/21 season.
Venables was named in this year’s JD Cymru Premier League Team of the Season, along with new Bala Town signings Alex Ramsay and Nathan Peate, with the side being compliled from votes from all 12 managers in the Cymru Premier.
Following the curtailment of the league, the FAW also confirmed that Venables was their 2019/20 Golden Boot winner.
It was the Bala skipper’s fourth Golden Boot award, topping the Cymru Premier goal-scoring charts again with 22 league goals after another superb campaign.
“Chris Venables will be our Club Captain again for the 2020/21 season,” confirmed Lakesiders’ manager Colin Caton.
“His professionalism and workrate, and the way that he conducts himself during the working week as a semi professional footballer is really excellent. He trains like a professional footballer and he always turns up to Bala in absolutely great condition with a great attitude.
“He thoroughly deserved his place in the Cymru Premier Team of the Season this year, without a shadow of a doubt, so it’s a no brainer that Chris will be the Club captain this year, and it will be great to work alongside him once again.”
Venables has made more than 400 appearances in Wales’ top-flight, scoring nearly 200 goals. He was also named as the Welsh Premier League Player of the Season in 2013-14 and 2014-15.
The experienced 35-year-old started his football career at Shrewsbury Town, before stints at Welshpool, Caersws, Aberystwyth Town and Llanelli. He made the move to Maes Tegid with Bala in 2016.
The full 2019/20 Cymru Premier Team of the Season is as follows: Lewis Brass (Connah’s Quay), Danny Holmes (Connah’s Quay), George Horan (Connah’s Quay), Priestley Farquharson (Connah’s Quay), Chris Marriott (TNS), Jamie Mullan (TNS), Callum Morris (Connah’s Quay), Aeron Edwards (TNS), Ryan Brobbel (TNS), Mike Wilde (Connah’s Quay), Chris Venables (Bala).
