DOLGELLAU Athletic booked their place in the next round of the FAW Welsh Cup after coming from behind to beat Waterloo Rovers 2-1 on Saturday.

The Central Wales League North side gave an excellent account of themselves and created the better chances during a closely contested first half, forcing goalkeeper Tyler Andrews into a number of important saves before breaking the deadlock after 35 minutes.

A free-kick into the danger area was only partially cleared by Andrews and Owain Richards reacted quickest to fire home from close range.

Dolgellau struggled to find their rhythm before the interval but almost levelled when William Gruffydd's inviting cross flashed across the face of goal without a touch.

The visitors emerged with renewed purpose after the break and were rewarded when a flowing move led to a handball in the penalty area. Captain Gerwyn Williams stepped up and calmly converted the resulting spot-kick.

Dolgellau continued to probe, and their persistence paid off with 10 minutes remaining.

A well-worked move down the left saw Roberts deliver a pinpoint cross into the six-yard box, where Osian Morris arrived to apply the finishing touch.

Meanwhile, Bow Street's cup run ended in heartbreaking fashion as they were beaten on penalties by St Asaph City at Cae Piod.

The Magpies made a dream start when Glen Evans fired them ahead midway through the first half, raising hopes of revenge against the side that eliminated them from the FAW Amateur Trophy qualifying round earlier in the season, also via a penalty shoot-out.

However, James Williams drew St Asaph level early in the second half and, despite opportunities at both ends, neither side could find a winner.

With the scores still level at the final whistle, the tie was decided from the penalty spot, where St Asaph once again came out on top to end Bow Street's Welsh Cup hopes.
