Ffosyffin cyclist Josh Tarling has wasted no time in getting his first win of the season, taking the top spot at the recent DB Max 10 mile Time Trial at Castle Combe.

With racing not yet resumed in Wales but dispensation to travel as an Elite Athlete, Josh travelled to Wiltshire to take on the 10-mile time trial around the motor racing circuit at Castle Combe last Wednesday.

The event comprised of 133 riders taking on 5.5 laps of the circuit on a calm and warm spring evening individually against the clock.

Josh, one of just four riders selected to join the British Cycling Junior Academy for 2021, has spent the winter mixing long road rides with intense track training camps at Manchester and Newport velodromes so was unsure of his form going into the Castle Combe time trial.

One of the last riders off, the times being posted by riders finishing before him were impressive including a couple of full time professional riders who set the time to beat. However, after the first lap it was clear Josh was on a flyer and he held a constant fast pace to take the win in a blistering time of 19.06.

His time was good enough on the night to not only win the junior prize but also win the event outright taking the senior prize too.

Time trials will be a focus for the next few weeks before mixing road and track in Great Britain and Europe for both Team GB and his new Belgian team, FlandersColor Galloo.
