THE 20th Cambrian News-sponsored Aberystwyth 10k was sold out two months prior to the event, and in a record field of 600 finishers Ollie Thorogood was first home in a strong time of 34:43.

In windy conditions, the runners were cooled off by a ferocious hail-storm, but it didn’t prevent a large number of runners from clocking good personal best times.

Local man Thorogood, representing South West Road Runners, was closely followed by Aberystwyth AC duo Rob Johnson second and Owain Schiavone third in times of 34:55 and 35:11 repectively.

Dylan Lewis of Sarn Helen narrowly missed out on the podium in 35:12, in quite a tussle to the finish with Edward Land of Aberystwyth AC, fifth in 35:21.

The top 10 was completed by Mark Horsman of Cardigan RC sixth in 35:28, Phil Morris of Brecon seventh in 35:37, Gethin Holland of Aberystwyth AC eighth in 35:53, Jamie Crawford ninth 36:08, and Ken Caulkett of Sarn Helen 10th in 36:12.

The first female runner was Carol Glover - the winner of the 2016 race - in 38:42, with Frida Cronqvist of Aberystwyth University Harriers second in 39:01, and Donna Morris of Brecon AC third 41:24.

The business/charity team prize was won by the National Library of Wales/Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru, with the three best times of Gethin Holland (35:53), Ian Evans (36:19) and Eilir Evans (41:41).

Top running club team was Aberystwyth AC, with the best three times of Rob Johnson (34:55), Owain Schiavone (35:11) and Edward Land (35:21). Sarn Helen Running Club were in second place, and Aberystwyth University Harriers third.
