A TYWYN couple are celebrating 70 years of marriage - and have received a card of congratulations from the Queen.

Sid and Betty Evenson (pictured), who settled in the town nearly two decades ago, after visiting the area for over 50 years, married on 23 May, 1947.

Betty, a keen royalist, was delighted to receive the card from Queen Elizabeth II - someone she says she has a lot in common with where key dates are conceened.

Betty was born in the same year as the Queen, got married in the same year, and also had her first son in the same year.

Betty celebrated her 91st birthday on 20 May, while Sid, who was a flight engineer in the RAF during the Second World War, completing over 30 missions in Lancaster Bombers, celebrated turning 92 on Christmas Day.

The couple have two sons, Bob and John, and a grandson Sam.
