POWYS residents are being urged to be mindful following reports of scam callers in the county.
Scammers have been ringing some Powys residents and advising them that they have a credit on their council tax.
The person being contacted is then asked to confirm their name and address. And is told they will get another call from a bank to arrange a refund to their nominated account.
These calls are not being made by Powys County Council staff.
If anyone needs to check if such a call is genuine, they are being urged to contact Powys County Council directly on 01597 827463 (office opening hours 9am - 1pm Monday - Friday) or email: [email protected]
If you receive a cold call, don’t give out any of your personal details, or any of your bank details and don’t let on that you live alone.
