POLICE say they are not treating the death of a missing Aberystwyth man as suspicious after a body was found in Llanbadarn Fawr last week.

Phillip Stanton (pictured), also known as Pip, Phil or ‘Jesus’ to his friends, a 28-year-old from Penparcau, was reported missing on Saturday, 27 May, and police said last week they were concerned for his welfare after he had not been seen since Tuesday, 23 May.

Police confirmed on Thursday evening that a body had been found in Aberystwyth while searching for Mr Stanton, who is understood to be a former student of fine art and English literature at Aberystwyth University.

The Cambrian News understands that the body was found in an area of woodland in Llanbadarn Fawr, which lies between Llety Gwyn fields to the west and the Glanyrafon Industrial Estate bridge to the east, and between the mainline railway to the north and the River Rheidol to the south.

Police said Mr Stanton’s next of kin and the coroner for Ceredigion had been informed, although formal identification had not yet taken place.

A police spokesperson added: “Police are not treating the death as suspicious.”
