AN ELDERLY woman has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after she was struck by a lorry.

The incident occurred in Penrhyndeudraeth on Wednesday afternoon (31 May) and emergency services rushed to the scene.

The crash happened on the village’s High Street, just outside Spar, at approximately 5pm and left a woman, believed to be in her 80s, with severe injuries.

Traffic backed up in either direction as medical staff tended to the woman, and motorists were delayed for over an hour due to the incident.

A spokesperson for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: “We were called shortly before 5pm to reports of a road traffic accident involving a pedestrian on High Street in Penrhyndeudraeth.

“We sent an emergency ambulance and a Wales Air Ambulance to the scene, and a female was airlifted to Ysbyty Gwynedd with serious injuries.”
