A flood warning issued by the Met Office for the A499 between Pwllheli and Penrhos has been downgraded to an alert.

The warning for River Rhyd Hir at Riverside Terrace said the A499 between Pwllheli and Penrhos is impassable.

“River levels are rising and conditions are expected to deteriorate,” the warning said.

But the Met Office say the situation has now improved.

"The previous Flood Warning has been removed,” a spokesperson said.

"In addition to the area detailed, some localised flooding problems may result from surface water.

"River levels are above normal.

"We will continue to monitor the situation."

Dyfi Bridge remains closed because of flooding, and trains on the Cambrian Line have also been affected.

Transport For Wales said: “Due to heavy rain flooding the railway between Machynlleth and Shrewsbury all lines are blocked. Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.”
