A “TOTALLY despicable” act of vandalism has seen a headstone partially destroyed and flowers stolen from a Blaenau Ffestiniog graveyard.
Caroline Jones was visiting the grave of her parents when she was shocked to discover a memorial marble horse had been smashed and flowers recently left had been stolen.
Justifiably upset, the family reported the damage at the local police station.
Caroline’s sister, Kathleen, was furious that her father’s grave had been desecrated once again.
“This is the fourth time it has happened over the years,” she said.
“The initial gravestone was a lot bigger than this but that was destroyed.
“We got the current smaller one so my parents could have peace but doesn’t seem to have worked.
“It makes me so angry but what can you do? Nobody will do anything about it.”
The family has now restored the grave back to normal.
Speaking about the matter, PC Emma Jones said: “On Saturday, 9 September a local resident attended Blaenau Police Station to report damage caused to her parents headstone at the local cemetery.
“This was a totally despicable act and very distressing to the family.
“So, on their behalf, I’d ask, through the Cambrian News, if anyone knows who may be responsible for the damage or witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the area to contact police.
“Our enquiries and patrols to the area will continue but if anyone can assist with this investigation please contact North Wales Police via the web live chat http://www.north-wales.police.uk/contact/chat-support.aspx
“Alternatively, phone 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 and quote RC1713 8126.”
