Abersoch lifeboat crew were called out yesterday to assist a 16-foot boat which had suffered engine failure near St Tudwal’s Island East.

The volunteer crew were paged at 1.47pm on Saturday after the Quicksilver motor cruiser contacted UK Coastguard for assistance.

The boat broke down south east of St Tudwal’s Island East with one person on board.

The lifeboat crew towed the vessel back to Pwllheli Marina and then returned to the RNLI lifeboat station at 3.50pm.

Lifeboat operations manager Andy Vowell said: "It is essential to ensure boat engines are regularly serviced and maintained to reduce the risk of problems."

He added: "It is advisable to consider having a smaller auxiliary engine on board which can be used in the event of main engine failure."
