TWO people have been rescued following a fire in a sheltered housing block in Cardigan on Tuesday morning.

A spokesperson for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Cardigan, Crymych, Fishguard and Newcastle Emlyn were called to a block of flats at Maes Mwldan, in Bath House Road, at around 6.30am following reports of a blaze.

The Cambrian News understands the fire broke out on one of the upper floors and two people who were rescued were treated at the scene.

Former town councillor – and retired fire officer - Dai Brabrook, who lives nearby, said: “I saw a couple of fire engines and an ambulance outside Maes Mwldan at around 7am.

“It’s a sheltered housing block which houses elderly occupants.”

The condition of those involved is not currently known.
