FIREFIGHTERS are still battling a blaze at an industrial estate near Aberystwyth this afternoon.

Residents are being advised to keep their windows closed as emergency services tackle the fire, which broke out in a building on Ceredigion County Council’s depot at Glan yr Afon Industrial Estate at around 1.47pm this afternoon.

The fire is in a single storey building which is believed to house various paints and gas canisters.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “Joint Fire Control Received the first call at 01:47pm today, Tuesday, 4 January 2022.

“Four fire appliances, a turntable ladder, an environmental unit and a water bowser have been deployed to the incident.

“The fire involves a single storey building, measuring approximately 45-meters by 15-meters, which is believed to house an internal storage area, various paints and gas canisters.

“Dyfed Powys Police are also in attendance.

“We ask that the public avoid the area whilst the emergency services are in attendance.

“The incident is ongoing and crews will remain at the incident to dampen down and monitor the scene.

Ceredigion County Council said: "The response to the fire at Ceredigion County Council’s Glanyrafon Depot, near Aberystwyth, is ongoing.

"This is including liaison on site between representatives from the emergency services and the Council.

"Contingency arrangements are being put in place to manage the situation safely and seeking to maintain service delivery and minimise impacts locally.

"Members of the public are advised to stay away from the area."
