A TWO-YEAR-OLD girl has died just a week before her third birthday after a car which was reported stolen with her inside plunged into the River Teifi at Cardigan.

Kiara Moore died at the University Hospital of Wales after rescuers recovered her from a silver Mini which her mum Kim said on Facebook had been stolen in Carmarthenshire.

She wrote: “Can everyone look out for the car, it’s been stolen with my daughter in it. Please share!”

Her sister Nichola Rowlands added: “My sister’s car was stolen from Carmarthenshire with my niece inside, please share and get my niece home safe!”

Police said it received a call about the Mini at 3.30pm and posted on its Twitter page that it had been found at 5.11pm.

In a later tweet in the early hours of Tuesday morning, the force said: “Sadly, we confirm that Kiara Moore, aged 2 (27/3/15) was pronounced dead at the UHW, Cardiff last night, having been recovered from a car in the River Teifi, Cardigan yesterday afternoon (19 March).

“Kiara’s family is being supported by specialist officers.”

The girl’s father Jet Moore said on Facebook: “Thank you all for your help this evening. A mega thank you to the officers who jumped in the river and the rest of the emergency services for all they did. Unfortunately, Kiara had an amazing but short life.”

Police said they were still investigating and appealed for witnesses.
