A man has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the Porthmadog bypass earlier this morning.

Police were called shortly before 8.30am to a report of a collision on the A487 involving a white Citroen Berlingo van and a red-coloured Ford Focus.

The emergency services attended, and the van driver has been airlifted to hospital in Stoke with serious injuries.

The female driver of the Ford Focus has been taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor with injuries believed to be minor.

Sergeant Jason Diamond of the Roads Policing Unit is appealing for witnesses.

He said: “The van was travelling from the Tremadog area going towards Penrhyndeudraeth and the Ford Focus was travelling in the opposite direction, so we are appealing to anybody who may have witnessed the collision or anybody who may have been travelling along the A487 and who has dash cam footage to contact us.

“We are also keen to speak to any HGV drivers who may have been travelling along the bypass towards the Porthmadog area who may be able to assist with our ongoing investigation.

“The road remains closed in order to carry out a full forensic investigation into the collision, so we’d like to thank the motoring public for their patience.”

Anybody with information is asked to contact officers at the Roads Policing Unit via the website or by calling 101, quoting incident number Z109028.
