MUDIAD Meithrin held a sponsored ‘Prams on the Proms’ in Aberystwyth.
It was a beautiful dry and sunny morning where nearly 60 adults and children participated in the walk to raise money for the local ‘cylchoedd meithrin’ (Welsh-Medium playgroups), ‘cylchoedd Ti a Fi’ and the Mudiad itself.
The prom walk was 1.2 miles long and the children and their parents took part by being pushed in a pram, walking, or riding their bikes.
Cylch Meithrin Llanfair Caereinion, Glantwymyn, Aberystwyth, Llanfarian, Llangwyryfon, Newtown and Meithrinfa Camau Bach day nursery were represented. Dewin – Mudiad Meithrin’s unique character – also took part to start everybody off on the walk and he was also there at the finishing line to dance and welcome all the tiny feet at the end of the walk.
This was the first in a series of sponsored walks to be organized by Mudiad Meithrin. Different parts of Wales will be visited providing a fundraising opportunity for other cylchoedd meithrin/Ti a Fi and day nurseries throughout Wales.
Dr Gwenllian Lansdown Davies, chief executive of Mudiad Meithrin said: “Fundraising, and financial viability, are two of the main challenges facing cylchoedd meithrin and cylchoedd Ti a Fi. What better way to raise money than by taking part in a huge sponsored walk led by Dewin – the Mudiad’s children’s character.”
