THE arrival of Father Christmas “in some style” is bound to be the highlight of the Aberaeron Community Christmas Fair at Pwllcam Car Park on Saturday afternoon.

Santa’s eagerly awaited appearance will have been preceded by a lantern parade by Aberaeron Primary School pupils earlier in the afternoon.

The fair will get underway in a large marquee at 2pm and is expected to finish at around 5.30pm.

The lantern parade – a new attraction of the event – is due to get underway from the primary school at 3.30pm.

The children will make their way along the main road towards Pwllcam pausing to watch the lighting of the town’s Christmas tree by Aberaeron mayor Cllr Rhys Davies in Market Street at around 3.45pm.

Entertainment at the marquee will be provided by a children’s choir, members of Felinfach Young Farmers Club and, finally, the ever-popular Bois y Gilfach.

Other attractions will include face-painting, balloon sculptures and a stiltwalker. There will also be cawl, mulled wine and kiddies’ treats.

Father Christmas is due to arrive at 4.30pm, but precisely how he makes his scheduled appearance remains a closely-guarded secret!

Winners of the town’s Window-Spotting competition – which has been underway since 11 November - will also be announced.

Entry forms are still available from J R Evans and the Nadolig Cymunedol Aberaeron Community Christmas Facebook page.

Last entries must be in the shop by 4pm on Friday.

The town’s shops are expected to enter into the spirit of Small Business Saturday and organisers hope that the free parking on offer – thought to be the only such scheme in Ceredigion that day – will help draw more people into town.
