A PORTHMADOG actress is set to return to Wales’ premier soap opera.
One of Cwmderi’s most colourful characters – Cassie Morris - is returning to Pobol y Cwm after 15 years away.
And according to the actress Sue Roderick, who plays the part of Cassie, she has not changed one bit.
“She has calmed down a little bit, perhaps, but she’s still the same old Cassie,” said Sue who was brought up in Porthmadog but now lives in Penarth.
“We’ve stuck with the red hair – she’s still very ‘full on’, strong and she still thinks she’s sexy!”
But it’s a sad story that brings Cassie – and Sue – back to the Cwm.
Her old friend Mrs Mac has died in Tenerife and Cassie has brought her ashes home.
“Of course, we lost Iola Gregory – the actor who played Mrs Mac – so this is a tribute to her. We had the family’s blessing – it was a really nice thing to do.”
Sue and Iola were good friends outside Pobol y Cwm and Sue misses her old friend.
“We worked together for a long time – she was a lovely friend. There is one scene which was filmed in the Deri which was very emotional.”
Cassie left Pobol y Cwm back in 2003. She had lost her ex-husband Teg (Yoland Williams) and her son Steffan (Huw Garmon) in very dramatic circumstances. Steffan killed Teg in Cysgod y Glyn and, while trying to defend herself, Cassie hit Steffan over the head with an ashtray.
Cassie went back to north Wales with her mother Beryl and then on to Tenerife to live with her old friend Mrs Mac.
Sue explained: “So, the story is that Mrs Mac has died in Tenerife and Cassie is bringing Mrs Mac back to Cwmderi. Cassie will be back on the screen from Monday, 3 December, for a short while. Then she will be back more permanently from February.”
