ANTIQUE mementos have been discovered as a Bala bank prepares to close its doors.
The former home of Bible Society founder Rev Thomas Charles (1755-1814) on Bala High Street has been the base of Barclays Bank for many years.
Mayor Dorothi Evans visited the branch, which is due to close on 23 March, last Friday to receive the contents of the special safe that kept personal items of the methodist.
Bala Town Council is currently in discussions with the Bible Society in Swindon with the intention to giving them the items on a long-term loan, hoping they would be kept and shown at the Mary Jones World Centre at Llanycil.
Customers losing their branch have also been offered assistance with online banking.
”We are here to help,” said branch manager Dan Smart.
“Customers are welcome to call in or phone for assistance and we will continue to provide our service to the community from Dolgellau (18 miles away) and Llangollen (21 miles away) which will be the two nearest Barclays to Bala following the closure here.”
