THE EASTER weekend heralded the start of the bowling club’s 2016 season. During the winter months, the club-house has undergone a refurbishment and on Easter Saturday, club members attended the opening meeting.The chairman, Phil Powell, welcomed newcomers to the club and reiterated the club’s continuing gratitude to the former president, Bill Gaskell.A proposal was made that Bill be given life membership of the club and members agreed unanimously with the proposal.In the evening members enjoyed a start-of-programme dinner at the Min y Môr Hotel.Club days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1.45pm. The club has an extensive programme of matches and events prepared and welcomes new members, whether proficient or just interested in the game of bowls. Members of the club are always happy to assist newcomers to the game of bowling.

Community nursery fund-raiser

OASIS Nursery is hosting a blind auction to raise funds for exciting upcoming projects to enhance the environment in which the children learn and develop.Oasis is a not-for-profit community group that relies on fund-raising and grants to boost its resources.A blind auction is another term for a sealed bid auction in which bidders simultaneously submit bids without knowledge of the amount bid by other participants, the highest bidder is declared the winner.Oasis has been receiving some fantastic donations from local businesses, tourist attractions and larger business chains.Donated items will be grouped together accordingly to produce a selection of bundles, packages and individual prizes.The auction will open on Friday and members of the public will be able to choose an item, bundle or multiple packages on which to bid.They will place their bid into an envelope which will be sealed and signed then placed inside a box. No-one will know the bid except the bidder.When the auction closes on Monday, 2 May, an event will be held at the Elim Church where bidders are welcome to watch the unsealing of the envelopes. The highest bidders will then be revealed.If there are two or more identical bids, these will be drawn from a hat by an independent adjudicator.
