Madam,
It has come to my attention that, from 2 January, the Mid Wales Travel 301/302 bus services are no longer stopping in Great Darkgate Street, in Aberystwyth town centre.
My mother, who lives in Waunfawr and is in her eighties, relies on this service daily to get into town to shop and to meet her friends for a coffee. It is too far (and too uphill) for her to do this if she has to walk from the station. I should imagine that, students aside, the vast majority of users of the local bus services are elderly, and contribute to the local economy hugely through their visits to the town. This change could seriously affect their ability to live their lives in an independent way – as intended by the free bus pass (not everyone is able to afford taxis) – and remain happier and healthier members of society. If the local bus service isn’t designed with elderly people in mind, doesn’t this also put its future at risk?
Yours etc,
Steve Hughes, Blake Street, Wyesham, Monmouth.
