An Aberystwyth restaurant is counting the cost after being flooded earlier this afternoon.

The lower floor of Little Italy on North Parade was left under a few inches of water after flash flooding drenched parts of West Wales this afternoon; forcing the restaurant to delay its post-Covid reopening date.

A spokesperson for Little Italy said: “It’s such a shame to see Little Italy like this but we will get it sorted ASAP.”

In a statement, the restaurant said: “After today’s storms and flash floods in Aberystwyth the lower floor of Little Italy has unfortunately been submerged under water!

“After closing the restaurant to protect our customers and staff from Covid-19, 2020 was already a testing year. And now our opening date may have to be further delayed.

“We hope everyone is keeping safe and we are looking forward to opening up and seeing you all soon!”

From 2.30pm onwards, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service reported attending eight incidents of flooding in the Aberystwyth area; one incident in Blaenplwyf, two in Penparcau, one on Great Darkgate Street, one on Terrace Road, two in Llanbadarn Fawr, four on Queen’s Road, one on Thespian Street and one on North Parade.
