RENOVATION of the former Deva nursing home on Aberystwyth seafront will take place next summer after the council entered discussions with the owner, businessman Vince Morgans.

Criticism of the condition of the building has led to it being dubbed an “eyesore” by people unhappy at the condition of a prime seafront building, with one resident insisting that while other companies and property owners are improving seafront properties, the Deva has been allowed to fall into disrepair.

Local councillor Mark Strong insisted action needed to be taken to ensure that the building is brought back into use.

A council spokesperson said it had been in discussions with Mr Morgans about the condition of the building and how it is affecting the seafront.

They said: “Officers for the council’s housing public protection service are aware of the deteriorating condition of the Deva and the impact this is having on the area.

“Meetings have taken place with the owner of the property and a plan is being drawn up, in agreement with the owner, for the renovation of the front of the building over the spring/summer 2016 that will be a prelude to full renovation.

“Planning permission and listed building consent for the change of use of the building into three dwellings, together with alterations was approved on 8 July 2010 and 15 November 2010 respectively."
