SUPERMARKET giant Lidl has announced a revised opening date for its new store in Aberystwyth.

Work has been ongoing at Rheidol Retail Park since the summer to expand the original Lidl store, which opened in 1997, into the site of the former Iceland store.

When complete, the new look store will be almost double the size of the original Lidl supermarket measuring in at 1,300 square metres.

It had been hoped that the new store would be open by the end of 2021, but delays have meant that original estimate has had to be revised.

A spokesperson for Lidl told the Cambrian News this week: “We can confirm that our new store in Aberystwyth is due to open this Spring.

“We are extremely grateful for all the support that we have received so far and would like to thank everyone for their patience whilst we enter the final stages of the redevelopment.”

A temporary store has been set up in the former Store 21 unit on Rheidol Retail park.

Lidl also revealed late last year that it is looking to increase its number of stores in Ceredigion with Lampeter and Cardigan being "locations of interest”.
