ABERYSTWYTH is suffering from increased parking problems with the fun fair taking over one of the largest car parks in town and Mill Street closed for development work, it has been claimed.
The fair, which opened on Monday, 16 November, is sited at the car park on Boulevard St Brieuc, but with the Mill Street car park out of action while major work takes place, that has led to concerns of a lack of parking in the town.
While the council has claimed that there are adequate parking facilities, Chris Mackenzie-Grieve, the chairman of Aberystwyth Chamber of Commerce, said the arrival of the fair did not help local businesses.
He said: “The fair does nothing to help town. Parking is abysmal already and to exacerbate that by having the fair here does nothing to help what are dire trading conditions anyway.
“The council, as far as I am aware, has not consulted any business on the effect of the fair.”
Aberystwyth mayor Endaf Edwards said that the loss of the car parking facilities is more likely to hit small independent businesses in the town.
