MARKET traders at Machynlleth’s Wednesday market shouldn’t be able to hold Machynlleth Town Council “to ransom” over parking regulations, according to a local councillor.

Market regulations are being reviewed after a row over whether enforcing parking regulations on market traders’ vehicles would be “draconian”.

The town council had received a letter from a visitor to the market who had warned that traders parking along the main street all day was a road safety issue for market visitors and that the market supervisor should enforce regulations to stop them parking there all day.

But a row was sparked when Cllr Michael Williams warned enforcing the rules could upset traders.

He said: “What I’m concerned about is that we do a disservice to the residents, visitors and businesses if we try and become too draconian with the town market.
