AN ABERYSTWYTH schoolboy has a royal appointment this weekend, after being invited to the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The couple will be married at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, on Saturday, and one of those invited is 18-year-old Sion Jones.

Sion was invited to the biggest wedding of the year after serving as a cadet to the Lord Lieutenant of Dyfed, Sara Edwards, for the past year.

The Ysgol Penglais school pupil, who is sitting his A-levels before hoping to study civil engineering at Swansea University, will be accompanied to the event by his mum, Nicola Morgan.

His father and his sister will also travel to Windsor on the weekend, but will not be part of the festivities.

Sion, who lives in Bontgoch, is one of 2,640 members of the public invited on the day to enjoy the occasion on the Windsor Castle grounds.

It is not Sion’s first brush with royalty, after meeting Prince Charles during his visit to Ceredigion earlier this year.

Sion’s dad, Geraint Jones of Abba Drains, said it will be a lovely family day, and that Sion “takes everything in his stride”.

“He is currently in the middle of the exam period but we will travel down as a family on Friday for it,” Mr Jones said.

“He wouldn’t say he is excited, he just takes everything in his stride - like when he met Prince Charles.”
