Madam,
Whenever there’s a problem with the road system and parking in Lampeter, Ceredigion County Council looks for the most expensive, disruptive solution.
1. Moving the college wall is mooted every few years. This would involve discussions with the university, buying the strip of land, moving the wall, building another wall to safeguard against the land slipping. All expensive and disruptive.
2. Making College Street one-way. The traffic coming from Aberystwyth would have to go down Bryn Road. Bryn Road is narrow. The entrance/exit to the Sainsbury car park is on this road. The Victoria Hall where the people’s market is held is on this road.
A far simpler, more cost-effective solution for the hard-pressed taxpayers of Ceredigion would be to stop people parking on College Street.
We could still have a couple of bays for blue badge holders down by the Islamist Centre where the road widens slightly.
This could be implemented in a week - from committee stage to actual painting of double-yellow lines. Simple, effective and cheap. What more could a Cardi ask for!
Yours etc, E Heneghan, Lampeter.
